Two Nature Trails are now complete at Red
Cloud Ranch. One, the Hike to the Ridge, is a one mile loop
to our lookout. The other is a mellow half-mile loop on the
rolling hills. Both trails are chock full of interpretive
signs about the local birds, native shrubs, berries, trees,
lichen, geology, mountain peaks, wildlife habitat and other
lore including lightning strikes and animal tracks. There
is even a stopping point for possible eagle sightings.
Log
benches and tables along the trails are great for rests or
snack time, or for lingering as the sun goes down. Our first
guests onto the trails enjoyed the exercise as well as the
scenery. We loved how one energetic friend used the Ridge trail
as a training
loop for his competitive running.
We have also started
making whimsical “Forest Creatures,” all
made of natural forest floor findings, and they are now “living” along
the Nature Trails—you’ll see them! During your
visit to the ranch, you can make your own little creature to
leave
on the trail, or to take home with you. It’s an art activity
for “campers” of all ages.
